Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder

- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, frozen
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- Zest of 1 large orange
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Grate the frozen butter into the flour mixture and mix with your fingers until it resembles coarse meal.
- Stir in the cranberries and orange zest.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour this into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it a few times to bring it together.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into 8 wedges.
- Place the wedges onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-17 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes/Tips
For a sweeter scone, you can add a glaze on top. Combine 1 cup of powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of orange juice and drizzle over the scones when they are cool. Remember, the key to a great scone is not overworking the dough. Handle it as little as possible for the flakiest, most tender scones.
